could it be that everything goes 'round by chance?
or only one way that was always meant to be?

real or not?

“We can’t be lost, we don’t know where we’re going” - Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

If I had to list down everything I love in the world, one item would probably be “quick, witty remarks”.  I’ve seen the commercials when it was still on air.  It is a story of a single mother and her daughter, both of which are “quick and witty”.  It is filled with music, books and movies, which probably surround my life.  Travel is also present when Lorelai and Rory went in a European Backpacking escapade.  It’s humurous, it’s simple, it’s a show that would appeal to my sense and personality, which all makes me wonder, why didn’t I watch it before?

I’m currently in the fourth season, when Rory is going to college at Yale University.  Her experiences in her first year, or as a student in general, is making me reminisce of my 18 years of being a student, and more appropriately, my last 4 years which is college.  I’m still in college, but on March 26, all of it would change.  College is the best years of my academic, even non-academic, life.  I’m not sure if it is the school, if it is the crowd, or simply because of the fact that it is college.  It is here that I am experiencing a sense of independence, a sense of realism, yet a complete set of idealism that would be bringing me to my future career.

Upon entry to college, I had all of this imagination of how it would be.  I imagined big, auditorium-like classrooms (well we have a couple of this), professors in preppy clothes, and even students being all academic and snotty.  College, my experience, is not like that at all.  The big, auditiorium-like classrooms are only used on special discussions, professors wear football jerseys to show their fandom and students are all weird and high.  The best thing to say is that, my college imagination was shattered after my 1st semester.

However, the learnings I’ve acquired, and still am acquiring, is more than I expected.  My learnings are non-academic.  Things that I learned are those that are preparing me for the future life, “in the real world”.  It’s about talking with people, doing transactions, arranging stuffs, understanding politics, how the world goes, and so forth.  College is my real world already, it’s not the entire real world, but it is a real world.

a free ride, when you already paid

“Humor brings insight and tolerance.  Irony brings a deeper and less friendly understanding” - Agnes Repplier

Irony is one of my little source of joy.  I like encountering irony in my everyday life; the moment of a sudden pause only to realize that something ironic happened.  It’s a weird and ephemeral moment that makes me feel all tingly inside.  Isn’t that weird?  However, after watching the last two seasons of a show that is already cancelled, I realized that irony does not always give that feeling, more often than not, the irony of life causes devastation to a lot of people.

But before I go to that, I would just like to mention this show that I discovered two years ago.  I watched only one season and then stopped, and only recently did I rediscover that I actually liked the show.  When I rediscovered it, I found out that it was already cancelled so no more of that.  (see, an irony just there!)  I am only able to watch this in the internet due to it not being aired here in the Philippines.  So, what’s this show I’ve been rambling on about? It’s entitled “South of Nowhere”.

As can be infered from the photo above, the story is about two girls.  Although there are other various subplots that resides in the show, about their family and friends, the focus is on the ongoing romance between these two girls.  Watching this show does not make me gay, but I like unconventional love, so it’s very interesting and sort of addicting in its own way.

The story starts with the Carlin family moving to Los Angeles.  They then have to start anew with their lives.  Spencer (left) met Ashley (right) in school where they develop a friendship.  Through Ashley, Spencer realized that she was in fact, attracted to girls.  After a lot of drama, this is of course a drama show, they end up together…that’s the first season.  The second season focuses on their relationship amidst external factors like family and old flames and whateverelse came.  And finally, the third season is about growing up, maturity of everyone involved, in a sense.

Which brings me to the irony of life.  The Church forbids homosexuality since it is against the laws of reproduction.  They don’t consider homosexuals as human beings because they are living a life that is perpendicular to what is normal.  On the other hand, we were all brought up to be who we are, to show the world who we are.  There is always the notion that should not try to be anyone other than ourselves.  Wouldn’t it be devastating indeed if one is in that situation?  To choose because there are only two sides?

Why couldn’t there just exist a third side?  Why does it always have to be with them, or against them?

In the end, why do people have to abide to a certain norm?  Why not create their own norm?  That is to say, are they not free to do so?

I would very much like to dwell on that furthermore, but right now.  I am damn tired.

i’ll run the marathon

November 5, 2007

I love watching TV, it is one of my simple pleasures, like reading and music and movies.  That is actually what I did the last half of my sembreak, a marathon!  I went in a marathon with Wentworth Miller in Prison Break.  Before, I never actually gave a damn about Prison Break because I felt that what they were doing was impossible, which actually is, and yet, the plot was very well made and all the twists, betrayals and even romance that goes with it twirled into a perfect combination of a drama.

I actually feel that I've missed a lot by not having started watching the series along with other people.  I didn't have someone to exclaim excitement and nerves while watching the series except with my mom who is actually my TV buddy.   We buy currently popular series and then go on a marathon.  However, some seasons are not complete or that the US is already showing their 10th episode while we are starting with a previous season, so, I found a solution through http://www.sidereel.com.  The site have this unbelievably complete list of all TV shows ever created.  The videos that they have are in good quality and could also be buffered fast depending on the media player used.  Viewers can choose from different media for viewing to suite their liking. The episodes are often updated so you won't feel lost at all.  In short, this is heaven for all TV buffs alike.  And have I mentioned, watching is completely free?

Anyway, here are the shows that I religiously watch either from DVD or the site:  One Tree Hill (well, I'm a teenager and I like Chad), Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, Prison Break, Ghost Whisperer, and South of Nowhere.  Actually, they are few so I'll try catching up with other shows.  I used to watch CSI, before Miami and New York came deliberately destroying the show.  And I watch The Amazing Race which is the only reality show I watch. I plan to watch Lost, but they say that the ratings are plunging, so I'm not sure.  I also plan to watch Kyle XY which I think is about an alien.  However, among all of these shows, nothing gives me more comfort than Friends; sad that it had to end.
